RS:X Windsurfing World Championships: Marina Reigns supreme

Marina Alabau [ESP5] retains her prefect score after two races today having posted two more bullets.

The wind moderated over night to around the 15 knot mark this morning. A good deal less challenging than yesterday to say the least.  Nevertheless, the chasing pack are having a few problems mustering their forces to make a concerted  challenge to the one woman Spanish Armada which is Marina. She won the first race by 58 seconds and the second by 38.

Marina Rambaud [FRA50] was black flagged in the first race of the day. Flavia Tartaglini [ITA46] got one in the second. They now sit in 14th and 15th respectively. Discards for them are therefore a foregone conclusion.

For me, the surprise of the championship, so far, is Nikola Girke [CAN17] who is up there mixing it with the leading names. She posted a 3rd and a 6th today to claim a share of 5th position overall with Angeliki Skarlatou [GRE3]. It will be interesting to see how Nikola goes in the light stuff.

The leader of the chasing pack is Eugenie Ricard [FRA22]. She put in a 4th and a 2nd in the shifty and variable breeze today to take 2nd overall. Blanca Manchon [ESP1], Marina's team mate is back in third, two points behind with Agata Brygola [POL20]  six points of the pacer in 4th.

The women's fleet are now assured of a rest day on Monday having raced 4 times. Racing for the women's fleet is scheduled for 1300hrs.

Apologies if you have had problems logging into the RS:X Windsurfing World Championships Regatta Centre.  We had 20,000 visitors yesterday who viewed 910,000 pages. Bottom line... That is 6 times more than any previous maximum ever achieved!
