RS:X World Championships: Measurement

The clan is gathering

The RS:X World Windsurfing Championships is gearing up for one week of spectacular racing. if Weymouth serves up the same weather as for the Techno Worlds last week, it’ll be pedal to the metal from day one.

However, before we turn our attention to the water, there is the small matter of completing all of the necessary formalities. To this end the RS:X Class Chief Measurer, Bas Edmonds [GBR] delivered the second measurement seminar of the year, yesterday. Our aim is to ensure that the RS:X Class Measurers are up to date with the latest thinking and procedures.

The RS:X One Design goes through strict quality procedures in the factory. In-House Measurement has been fully implemented. The Class Rules state that it is the sailors responsibility to ensure his/her equipment complies with class rules. The logical conclusion is that the current procedure of scrutineering equipment before a championship is both time consuming and unnecessary.

Next year the online registration system will include the logging of all equipment serial numbers thus reducing pre-racing days from 3 to one.

Post race measurement under the jury's guidance will continue as normal so equipment checks will be made and effective checks will be in place.

This will allow the Local Organiser and the participants to reduce their costs.
