The 2009 RS:X World Windsurfing Championships is just round the corner

The 2009 RS:X World Windsurfing Championships is just round the corner. Starting on August 31st and running through to September 11th. 60 entries from 25 countries have been made in the RS:X Women's windsurfing Worlds and 86 from 30 countries in the RS:X Men's windsurfing Worlds.

In the Women's fleet Yin Jian [CHN] and Alessandra Sensini [ITA] are not registered  but Bryony Shaw [GBR] the bronze medal winner at the 2008 Olympic Regatta will be taking on all-comers on her home waters.

In the men's fleet and despite rumours to the contrary, Tom Ashley [NZL], the 2008 gold medallist has not registered. Julien Bontemps [FRA -silver] and Shahar Zubari [ISR -bronze] will be there mixing it again after a close fought duel at the recent RS:X Europeans in Israel.

*Anyone wishing to take part in the RS:X Reach-4-The-Top Training Camp starting on August 25th should contact me NOW.  There are still a few places open. Jacob Holst [DEN] will be coaching.*

Both fleets are packed with young talent intent on staking their claim on their country's berth at London 2012. Laura Linares [ITA] and Flavia Tartaglini [ITA] will be going head to head to establish supremacy.

Hei Man Chan [HKG], ISAF Youth World Champion, who has been recovering from an injury sustained just before the Palmalife RS:X Youth Worlds in Yalikavak will want to get on terms with these two and Izzy Hamilton [GBR] who snatched the RS:X Youth Windsurfing World title in spectacular fashion.

Michalis Malekkides [CYP] will no doubt be looking forward to the breeze in which he won the RS:X Youth World title. September in the UK could deliver. Best to keep an eye on Wind Guru

In the meantime, we'd like to welcome back Kevin Stittle [CAN] and Alex Guyader [FRA] who were occupied in Tornado campaigns leading up to Beijing 2008.

For those who won't be able to make it to sunny Weymouth, you will be able to follow developments LIVE. We'll have our dynamic on-line scoring system there and intend to track the top 10 through each race.
